    'Tis strange!

Monday, June 2, 2008, 02:57 PM EST [General]

Well, GARF is over for another year, and my life is about to get much duller.

It was fun this year, despite the apparent failure of my Personal Anti-Drahma Shield.  *shrug*  Whatever.  I'm easy going.  Doesn't mean I don't get hurt and unhappy.  I just don't make a scene about it.  There are times I'm glad I'm socially stupid; I just don't know when people are being hurtful or cruel or backstabbing a lot of the time, and I'm probably the happier for it.

I am a little glad that the season is over, however.  I was hitting socialization overload.  I'm an introvert.  Always have been.  Hanging out with large groups of people, particularly this large group, where interpersonal relationships can change at a moments notice, leading to an increased chance of inserting foot into mouth, gets stressful to me after a while.  My brain starts to shut down.  I get stupid and forgetful.  I do better in smaller groups of two to five, but even that would be a bit much right now.  I'm looking forward to a little alone time...with the PS2, perhaps.

Right now, I'm just f-ing WIPED.  Tommy and I didn't get home from La Fi until 2:30 last night, and I had to get up at 6:30 this morning to catch the bus.  It took a while to get rarin' to go this morning, but I think I've finally (at 2:30) gotten my feet under me.  Thank Goddess it's a slow day at work.

In the "real world" front, they're cutting my hours at work, so I'm going to be home a lot more for the next few months (and a lot less money).  This will either lead to a great many improvements in the house, or a nervous breakdown after having been herded into a corner by the scorpions.  (The court damn near broke me yesterday singing "Itsy Bitsy Scorpion went up the water spout")

Photos from final weekend to come, tomorrow, perhaps.  My camera is still in my pouch, which is probably under a pile of dirty garb on the living room couch.  Where I dumped it last night in my zombie-like stagger to a shower and bed.

*sigh*  So not looking forward to cleaning up from faire season.

    Universal balance

Friday, May 30, 2008, 11:52 AM EST [General]

Every time I start to like where I live, something pops up.

In the last week or so, I've noticed that those big thorny bushes growing at the corner of the front porch are either blackberry or raspberry bushes; I'll know for sure when the berries stop being green.  I hacked a path out of the wilderness to get in front of them, so that I can harvest lots of yummy berries in a few weeks!  I also noticed that the path I've been working on building back to the stream goes past another very large, apparently VERY fruitful tangle.  I'm imagining I'll get almost a bushel of berries out of these two areas.

I looked out at all the wild flowers in my yard, and the grasses, watched the little baby snakes scurry into the dead leaves at my approach, and the semi-friendly hare that lives somewhere in the grass.  I decided that I rather like having a yard gone feral, now that I'm working with it.  (I'll post pictures, eventually)

Then, this morning, there was a scorpion in my sink.  Again.  About three inches long.  Goddess, I hate those things!  And what really upsets me is the fact that it probably rode into the house on the clothes I was wearing when working in the yard last night.

I could be content with our little wilderness if we could just eliminate the scorpions and the fire ants.  Well, and make a few house repairs/improvements.  At least I can work on the latter.

Have some photos of DoW pub sing:

    Sake Smugglers
My camera REALLY didn't want to take pictures of these guys.  They all ended up hazy and orby, yet pictures before or after turned out fine.  It made me cranky, but I think a few other people got good pictures.

    A toast!
Navarre is so cute with his little cup toasting everyone.

    Barbarian at the Gates
The Barbarian at the Gates and his dear Lady.  If you were there, no more needs be said.

    Nothing Worth Saying

Thursday, May 29, 2008, 01:35 PM EST [General]

Day of Wrong: For those on the list who don't know what Day of Wrong, or DoW, is, DoW is a prearranged day (at GARF almost always Memorial Day Monday) where people wear or do things that are just wrong.  On one level or another.  Also known as Prank Day, Big Bits Day, or How-Far-Can-I-Push-The-Envelope-Day.

I prefer to do things that are wrong only because I'm the one wearing it; same for my husband.  So, here's what we came up with.

    Kiss kiss!
Yes, that is my husband, and yes, he did break 95% of the cast and musicians by appearing at front gate.

    Twins, perhaps?
Since Tommy wasn't quite himself, someone had to be the Commodore!

    Mischevous Faeries
Yes, that's me second from the left, and yes we all look very cute.  What was wrong?  I'm always a pirate and always in blues, greys or greens.  A few, though not many, had more trouble recognizing me than Tommy.

    Gakked from Nikki...

    ...for the same reason

    1. Think of the first word that comes to mind when you think of me.

    2. Go to Google Images and search for that word.

    3. Reply to this post with one of the pictures on the first page of results (don't tell me the word).

    4. Put this in your own journal so that I can do the same.

    Still on Invasion come-down

Wednesday, May 28, 2008, 03:46 PM EST [General]

I'm still pooped from Invasion.  It was fun.  I saw a lot of people.  I did not take a lot of photos because I was busy doing things.  I'm not going to bother with a recap.

Here's the only three photos I took (or were taken on my camera) not on Day of Wrong.

    Invaders Photo
Here's the mass invader photo.  I'm a little annoyed that you can't see Tommy in it.  We had several photographers snapping away, so he must have been looking at the one who wasn't holding my camera.  You can just see his hat above Cyd.

    Jack's New Friend
One Eyed Pirate Dog Jack has a new little buddy.  Look, their coats match!

    Captain Hook and me
And I got to take a picture with this kick-ass Captain Hook!
