    Attention GARF invaders

Friday, May 11, 2007, 11:01 PM EST [General]

Okay, I've discovered something that might be important for all you invaders coming down. The management of Hotel Otter is being VERY strict about how many people are in each room. I've seen this, in person, a few times already this year. I am in no way shape or form suggesting that you attempt to defraud the nice people at hotel Otter who put up with our particular brand of insanity and chaos every year. But if you happen to find yourself playing host to a poor, homeless invader who was not on your original reservation, be discreet or be honest. Good pirates, wenches and rogues know when they've got a good thing and when not to possibly damage it.

Please cross post wherever you see fit.

My Mommy wants to be one of the cool kids.

Thursday, May 10, 2007, 01:36 PM EST [General]

My mom is coming down for Festival this weekend, along with my sister. Look out GARF, all three of the Lewis women are on the loose!

Actually, Mom's being very cute. She keeps saying how much she's looking forward to coming without my dad along. She can go wherever she wants, see whomever she wants, eat whatever she wants (she's really excited about the fried cheesecake for some reason) and do it all in her own time.

And to quote her, she wants to be "one of the cool kids" and "hang out" after Faire on Saturday. So I'll bring her out to Eureka, and maybe La-Fis after, but if I know my mom, she'll be wiped by halfway through dinner and want to go back to the hotel.

I'm so amused that she's slowly starting to get really into Faire. She loves rennies, and she's got her Wench Pin. Says there's no one she's met at any of the festivals yet, that she doesn't like and find really interesting.

I'm all happy, because I get lots of sleep this weekend, and don't have to drive much! Mom and Sarah are staying at Hotel Otter, and have a spare half a bed, so I'm going to go stay with them Friday and Saturday night. tomomallie won't miss me much, since the extent we see each other is for about an hour on Saturday or Sunday mornings. He just has to remember to feed the ratbabies!

Plan for tonight: belly dance, hopefully finish Loretta's dress, pack, and maybe Guild Wars a little.

The Good, the Bad and the Unexpected

Monday, May 7, 2007, 02:25 PM EST [GARF days]

While I have not received confirmations of how/when/if I'll be paid, I have receeved confirmation that the third show in the DQNPF has been "postponed" due to actor illness.
    This means many things things:
    1) I'm once again worried about my paycheck.
    2) I get to see my husband more often!
    3) If you asked me to do a sewing project for you this weekend and I said I didn't have time, I now do.
    4) I get to go to pub sing, and maybe even *gasp* La-Fi's for the rest of the season! *dances madly*
    5) My RAM might get a reboot, after all!!!
    6) I am now is search of a gig that starts in August.

But, to celebrate my unexpected freedom, I present GARF sunday recap.

I had fun being rough, wild celt yesterday. I wore my doeskin wrap skirt over tomomallie's tartan and wore the doeskin bodice and looked quite cute. I's a look I'm going to have to repeat some time. I hope someone got a picture of it. whiskeyfyre put my hair up in fun braids with some hairsticks! (come on paycheck, I've got some plans for you!)
It being Matthew and JC's birthday week (And yamguitar's, but he ran away before we could do anything to him), it was time for the semi-annual wenching of half the Lost Boys. I got dragged into it a bit belatedly, so I just went with the flow. And it was so much fun to have ladyleo there for her first Local 74 wenching, as well as the fabulous dch4 for our (kilted!) guard.
LB first show of the day silliness ensued, due to the front row being filled to capacity with Wenches on a Wenching high.
After the show, we mostly went our separate ways, but determined to meet up at the crows nest a little later. whikseyfyre dragged me off to meet the Irishman with the gorgeous accent and pretty eyes that she's gone ga-ga over at the wooden rose booth. Yes, both eyes and accent were worth it. I say she needs to act now!
We met lady_rose30 and Amanda at the Crows Nest which turned out to be a bad idea. lady_rose30's ribs didn't much like the centrifugal force, and poor Amanda got nauseous. It did seem to me that the ride was a little more intense than in previous years. those two got partially recovered and limped off towards the pub, and whiskeyfyre and I sat near food 2, watching passer-bys until it was time for her shift over at Bullseye. We saw this GREAT kid in an awesome leather doublet, great pants, fake spats/boots with a bow and nice quiver. Must have been about 9 or 10, looked well put together. Then we caught the end of Blackenshear's show.
So, Madame went off to work and I trotted off to see the blacksmith demo, 'cause I promised Trent, on Saturday, that I would. I now miss the little bit of smithing I did in college. He had a wonderful lecture going along with his demo about the importance of history and the idea of sustainability and how difficult that is in the modern society. I got sun-burnt while sitting there, though. Not bad for a faire-burn, though. It feels warm today, but doesn't hurt.
After the demo, it was time for me to start heading out for work, so I trotted up to the hostel to return Tammie's hairsticks. I saw lady_rose30, luvnscandl and Amanda sitting in the shade chatting/gnashing about some of the repercussions of the days earlier events. So, I joined them for a few minutes, and we ended up getting our picture taken.
Chatted with whiskeyfyre at Bullseye on my way out; saw supergoober the only time all weekend as I checked into the pub to make my goodbyes. With the exception of her and 2/3 of 3/4 Ale on stage, there were no Rennies in the pub. It was creepy...and unusually quiet. Very strange. I could always depend on someone to be there for me to at least wave at. The corner was empty! *tear*
Ran into Carlos and heatherpants12 as I was leaving gate (literally, the called me as I was on my way into the parking lot).

And then it was show time, strike time, and go home time. And time to get tomomallie to put aloe on my sunburns before I went to bed.

    Not quite undersqire bra

Saturday, May 5, 2007, 07:14 PM EST [GARF days]

Interesting day at Faire today. I was, as I said at one point, support staff.
Met up with Amanda at gate, heard about her personal drahma (ask her, not mine to tell) and agreed to help her with her days goals. At least insomuch as it was in my power to do so. I really missed the musicians at the gate show, this morning. I like bagpipes. I just miss the Village Band insanity.
Getting in gate was a bit chaotic, the usual muddle of greeting people, waiting for others and generally getting in the way of traffic. Was highly amused as Amanda got flogged four times by Steve. I'm not sure who was having more fun.
I dropped my boda off over at Bullseye Leather because at gate, it started leaking like all hell. I was not amused. Oh, damn, just realized I left it on the table at pub. Oh, well, someone will grab it for me. They fixed it so, happy!
Headed up to first Lost Boys show with Amanda, where we proceeded to cause a bit of trouble. We met up with whiskeyfyre for the second show, and proceeded to cause more trouble. Trouble along the lines of Amanda got whacked in the head with JC's guitar, and I got a good look straight up his kilt. Oh poor us. JC was very sweet and told me that it was a lot more fun when tomomallie was there. It's nice to know people are thinking about and missing Tommy.
We also saw some fabulous barbarians hanging out at the back of the show. whiskeyfyre, as usual, claimed the one in burgundy and black as "hers." I had fun helping Amanda and Whiskey semi-stalk them the rest of the day. I hope some amusement ensued during pub sing. They were quite pretty, though I was mostly pleased to notice that they were enthusiastically having a great time, since they weren't afraid to possibly look stupid.
We three headed back to the pub with various pit-stops along the way. whiskeyfyre missed parade, as she was daring enough to try to use the privy. I ran off with her mug, however and got to see it. Got frisked by Damascus Daringblade, since I was too close to the king, and dressed in tartan. Once again, oh, poor me.
It was a fun, slightly different pub day; supergoober wasn't there, so lasarigue's band, the Rum Runners were in her slots. They do nicely in the pub. Though I think they should open up the floor to suggestions with "What Do You Do With a Drunken Sailor." The boys also discovered the joy of making whiskeyfyre happy with "Cannibal Islands." Oogacha oogacha. Need I say more?
Continuing in my role of support staff to the rest of Local 74, I trotted off with Amanda so she could get her hair braided. She ended up with a five strand double that just looked wonderful. I'm considering getting my hair braided on Memorial Day Saturday, just so I won't have to mess with it the rest of the weekend. I'll see what finances are like at that point. I really REALLY hope I get my pay from my current gig in a timely manner... It's looking again like that might not quite happen. *gulp*
The rest of the day was your standard pub silliness.
BTW, could anyone see me today? 'Cause I felt sort of invisible. At least five times, people just plain turned away from me in the middle of a conversation I was having with them, in the middle of a sentence I was saying, and struck up a conversation with someone else, or just walked off. Or am I receiving some not so subtle hints?

Yeah, I would have guessed that.

I had a dream last night that werewolves attacked the POTC3 premier.  Pirate vs. Ninja may be debateable, but in Pirate vs. Werewolf, we get our asses kicked.

My folks will be coming to GARF this weekend; huzzah!  It always good to see them, and they have such a good time at faire.  And weather looks to be great this weekend.  We'll be staying at hotel otter, so Tommy and I can spend some more time with them, and we don't have to drive as far at night.  Due to this, I might acutally be at La Fi's a bit on Sunday.  Have to bring my dancing shoes!

Oh, and I got caught by Chip Talbert on camera this weekend.  I love that man's photography!
