    Bwah?

It's snowing outside my office, in Midtown.  Rather heavily, actually.

Didn't expect to see that today.  No wonder I'm cold.

That went better than I had hoped.

My little gig as fill in SM for In Darfur went pretty well last night; I was actually more use than I thought I'd be.  I managed to figure out some coherent notes for props and costumes that perhaps might not have been addressed before, I was on book for the run through (giving lines in English, phonetically spelled out Arabic, and French!), and I did some facility based stuff, as well.  I did not, as I feared, feel useless.

I have to say, though, I'm very glad I'm not doing that show on a full time basis.  I don't know how well I'd be able to handle the heavy emotional load night after night.  I can handle tragedy, sure, no problem.  But I prefer the more personal tragedy of Romeo and Juliet or Death of a Salesman, not the hopelessness of generic hatred and genocide!  It's a powerful show, I'll give it that.  Once sound and lights are in, there are going to be more than a few goose-bump inducing moments!  I'll probably go see it when it opens.  Alone.  When I give Tommy non-fiction audio books, on any topic, he likes to say that he prefers fiction, he has enough reality in his life.  This is definitely too much reality for him.

And today, I'm bluidy cold!!!  This building's HVAC system does not handle drastic weather changes well, and cold air is pouring in through the little slit in my cage window.  I really need to consider getting a pair of these; my fingers are so stiff and sore!

Tonight is date night, and I'm teaching Tommy how to cut out patterns.  New rule: I'll sew anything he wants, but he has to cut it out.  Poor man is terrified that he'll mess everything up beyond all possibility of repair.  I keep telling him I won't let him mess up, but he's just so nervous.  He'll be fine, and so proud of his coat once it's done.  Besides, tonight we're just cutting out interlining.  If there's a place to mess up cutting, that's the one!  Don't worry, I'll take pictures!

I couldn't give a shit about the LJ strike one way or another. Though I think the stupidest thing in the whole debacle is this cadre of venomous anti-protest people. Seriously. If a couple dozen/hundred/thousand/whatever people don't wanna post in their LJ's for a day, what's it to you? Who is stupider? The strikers for finding something better to do with their ten/twenty/four hundred minutes of time (and perhaps actually getting away from the computer *gasp*, oh noes!!!!), or the anti protest people spending ten/twenty/four hundred minutes of time wanking about how much cooler/smarter/more logical they are, posting nonsense and trolling people just to defeat the protesters, who weren't actually hurting them in the first place?

I didn't post today. I was bored of the intrawebs and, I had better things to do. I had a library book to finish. I took my 30 minute lunch break at work to walk in the park. It was pretty. I saw ducks. And fish. And people doing yoga. Maybe the yoga people were protesting LJ by going outside. Or perhaps it was the ducks. Either way, someone better tell the trolls.

Now I'm posting because my abdomen seems to be hosting some sort of gurgly creature square dance, and I don't want to be caught too far away from the bathroom.  The computer is, conveniently, only a few rooms away from the bathroom.  Perhaps my digestive enzymes are protesting dinner. I don't know, but I do know my pilates workout tonight is not going to happen. Pilates + gurgly stomach creature square dance = results I don't even want to contemplate. Yep, Pilates is definitely out for tonight, but sewing is a definite possibility. It's not like I don't have five projects waiting for me in the studio. Which is, conveniently located right next to the bathroom.

Oh, and here's today's Progression of Spring picture. Leaves, flowers, wheeee! Soon my tree is going to have all it's leaves and I'll have to find something else to photograph. (Yes, , I know, Broadfoot, the Great Danes! I have to be home and conscious long enough to get the camera out, first!)

    I'm FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

    Monday, March 17, 2008, 01:50 PM EST [Non-faire]

I don't know if it was because it was SO beautiful outside, I just didn't want to be there, the flooding from the day before, or what, but the Horizon just smelled yesterday.  I walked in the door, and it took all my willpower not to just turn around and walk back out into the beautiful weather and sunshine!

But the show went off without a hitch, and after a very brief strike (and a tot of yummy bourbon, thanks to Brik), I was on my way to go meet Tommy for Thank-You-Goddess-The-Show-Is-Finally-Over celebratory pizza by 8 o'clock.  He brought me pretty flowers!  My exhaustion from working 4 months at two jobs, with only about four or five days off the whole time, finally caught up with me, all at once, around 9:20, and I almost face planted into my pizza.  It was almost all I could do to drive the rest of the way home (20 miles) and unload my SM kit and computer from the car.  Oh, and put my pretty flowers in water.

This morning, I'm back to riding the bus.  It was not an auspicious day to resume that.  The bus was twenty minutes late picking us up and (thanks to the f-ed up math that is temporal continuity and ATL traffic) I got to work 45 minutes later than usual.  Since "usual" is almost an hour early, this was not a problem, but I feel sorry for the rest of my fellow commuters.

Also, Happy St. Patrick's Day!  I'm of two minds about celebrating this holiday.  Yes, I'm VERY Irish from quite a few sides of the family, but, also, the "snakes" St. Patrick drove out of Ireland?  Metaphor for driving the last of the Druid's underground and Christianizing the Island.  As a Druid, I'm a little cranky about that.  But, what the hell!  Heritage is heritage and Oestara is on Thursday!

    Three pictures, today:

    Progression of Spring: 3-17-08
The tornadoes were in Downtown, not Midtown, so my tree was not terribly affected by the storms.  It REALLY has burst into bloom, and, as you can see, the leaves are not terribly far behind.  Also, that's a clear sky behind it, NOT clouds.

    Mooney family crest pin
This is the Mooney family crest, where the Irish on my maternal Grandmother's side comes from.  My uncle brought this pin back for me when he went to Ireland a few years ago, and I've worn it every St. Patrick's Day, since.

    Newgrange Spiral pendant
And this is my Newgrange Spiral Triscele pendant.  The three arms of the spiral represent the three realms of Land, Sea and Sky.  I wore this necklace daily for years, and it was only after I got my tattoo of the spiral at the top of my back that it got relegated down to occasional wear.  Still, it is the piece of jewelry I wear most often (barring my wedding ring).

    Soooooo close.

One more show! Then a break of five months before, possibly, riding the two-job pony for seven months straight. Yikes.

The tornadoes of last night and today didn't terribly affect us over at the show. It passed within just a few miles of the theatre, but luckily, all we experienced was a flicker in the lights. Driving home was a hell of an experience, though!

Anyway, most of the point of this post was to show off the picture I took on my way out the door this morning. I looked down as I stepped off the porch steps and saw this one, lonely little violet. It was so pretty, I just had to take a picture.

    Unexpected Violet I

Now to clean the bathroom, laundry room, put away three loads of laundry, mink oil or saddle soap some more faire gear, and eventually, get some sleep.
