    One Week left

Monday, March 10, 2008, 12:27 PM EST [General]

Only one week of show left.  Thank Goddess, I can't wait.  You know, one of these days I will fully absorb that I do have a right to down time, and I have a feeling it's going to make me very upset.

And, have I ever got Faire on the brain!  I just realized that I didn't sew a damn thing for new garb last year.  No wait, there was the one chemise out of silk left over from my wedding dress, so almost nothing.  But, I think I needed the year off.  I've been sewing major projects mostly for other people, every year since 2004, besides any number of scattered pirate pants, chemises, shirts, etc.

2004 - Tommy's red pirate coat (designed from scratch) and silk pirate shirt.
2005 - Tommy's grey pirate coat (designed from scratch) and a complete outfit, designed from scratch, for Andrew.
    2006 - a freakin' wedding dress!!!!
    2007 - um, no thanks.

The sabbatical from the sewing machine has refreshed me and I'm ready to tuck in to a number of good sewing projects this year.  Lindsay and I are going to the fabric store tomorrow to find her some fabric for chemises.  I just ordered a few patterns for Tommy and myself.  He needs a new coat, BADLY!  He's lost so much weight that the old ones look like he's a little kid waering his dad's clothes!  I've been yearning for a pirate coat for a few years, so I'm doing one for me, as well as overhauling my garb wardrobe.  I have a lot of garb, but very few pieces that I'm absolutely thrilled with.
I have a list.  It's my When-I-Have-These-Garb-Pieces-My-Wardrobe-Will-Be-Complete-No-I-Mean-It-STOP-LAUGHING!!!!! list.  With the exception of boots and this bodice I will be making everything on the list.  My problem is that I always find fabric, or patterns, or styles that I MOSTLY like.  And then the piece keeps getting shoved further and further back in the garb wardrobe, and I end up never wearing it.  I have chemises I haven't worn in two years.
As I replace it with stuff I absolutely love, all that stuff is going in a loaner box, which will be stored in the back of my car during Faire season, enabling the dressing up of unsuspecting guests!  I'll probably let my sister dig through it first, though.

Tonight, for date night, Tommy and I are going through garb, patterns and scrap fabric and plotting out my sewing projects.  40 days until the start of Faire.  He IS going to learn to cut out his own stuff this time, though.  I'll sew it, but he needs to learn how to do that.

It can b fabrik store tiem nao?

So, when's the next one out?

Friday, March 7, 2008, 12:35 PM EST [General]

I stayed up past my bedtime last night to finish Mad Kestrel by Misty Massey.  I had only thirty pages left, when the show started last night, to my massive annoyance.  I hate being so close to the end of a book and not have the leisure to finish it.
I'll be posting my full review/critique on my Goodreads.com page a little later.  Here I'll just say it was like a big, rich, sumptuous-looking cupcake; it looks so good and appealing you can't help devouring at all at once, and then you're sad when it's done because you don't have any more.

It was pretty rainy when I set out for work, this morning, and I was afraid I wouldn't be able to get my photo this morning.  But I got a pretty decent one.  I tried cropping a different section of the branch today, and I'm fairly pleased with the result.

    Progression of Spring: 3-7-08
I won't be working this job the next two days and Spring is speeding up; I think I'll probably miss some good changes.  Phoey.

1d4+1 drinks for everyone! (R.I.P. Gary Gygax)

Wednesday, March 5, 2008, 12:07 PM EST [General]

Stolen from Abby (with some slight editing):

It was said as humorous by a friend, but you know what? I'm gonna do it. Cause I'm a damn geek and 'cause I can.

Sometime today I am going to raise a glass to Gygax, and roleplaying as a whole. And I'm gonna roll that pointy little die across the table....1d4 + 1 drinks.

I recommend you do the same if you're a gamer geek. Doesn't have to be alcoholic. After all, some of us are only bards and our Constitutions suck. ;-)  I suggest Mountain Dew.

    (Kidding about the bard crack.)

    Repost if you want.

    Celebrations

Tuesday, March 4, 2008, 11:22 AM EST [General]

    Two great, happy events today!

First, it is the lovely, charming, talented Lindsay Smith's birthday!  Happy birthday, sweet!  (And if you still want me to sew for you, call me!)

Second, it's the release of the lovely, charming, talented Misty Massey's first book, Mad Kestrel, published by Tor!  Congratulations, honey!  I'm so lucky to know such talented people, like you!

Here's her website.  Pirates.  Come on, people, pirates!  Go buy it!  I'm stopping off at B&N on the way home, pirate hat on head to pick up my copy and pester some poor book sellers about it.

    Attention GARF invaders

Friday, May 11, 2007, 11:01 PM EST [General]

Okay, I've discovered something that might be important for all you invaders coming down. The management of Hotel Otter is being VERY strict about how many people are in each room. I've seen this, in person, a few times already this year. I am in no way shape or form suggesting that you attempt to defraud the nice people at hotel Otter who put up with our particular brand of insanity and chaos every year. But if you happen to find yourself playing host to a poor, homeless invader who was not on your original reservation, be discreet or be honest. Good pirates, wenches and rogues know when they've got a good thing and when not to possibly damage it.

Please cross post wherever you see fit.
