Not quite undersqire bra
Met up with Amanda at gate, heard about her personal drahma (ask her, not mine to tell) and agreed to help her with her days goals. At least insomuch as it was in my power to do so. I really missed the musicians at the gate show, this morning. I like bagpipes. I just miss the Village Band insanity.
Getting in gate was a bit chaotic, the usual muddle of greeting people, waiting for others and generally getting in the way of traffic. Was highly amused as Amanda got flogged four times by Steve. I'm not sure who was having more fun.
I dropped my boda off over at Bullseye Leather because at gate, it started leaking like all hell. I was not amused. Oh, damn, just realized I left it on the table at pub. Oh, well, someone will grab it for me. They fixed it so, happy!
Headed up to first Lost Boys show with Amanda, where we proceeded to cause a bit of trouble. We met up with whiskeyfyre for the second show, and proceeded to cause more trouble. Trouble along the lines of Amanda got whacked in the head with JC's guitar, and I got a good look straight up his kilt. Oh poor us. JC was very sweet and told me that it was a lot more fun when tomomallie was there. It's nice to know people are thinking about and missing Tommy.
We also saw some fabulous barbarians hanging out at the back of the show. whiskeyfyre, as usual, claimed the one in burgundy and black as "hers." I had fun helping Amanda and Whiskey semi-stalk them the rest of the day. I hope some amusement ensued during pub sing. They were quite pretty, though I was mostly pleased to notice that they were enthusiastically having a great time, since they weren't afraid to possibly look stupid.
We three headed back to the pub with various pit-stops along the way. whiskeyfyre missed parade, as she was daring enough to try to use the privy. I ran off with her mug, however and got to see it. Got frisked by Damascus Daringblade, since I was too close to the king, and dressed in tartan. Once again, oh, poor me.
It was a fun, slightly different pub day; supergoober wasn't there, so lasarigue's band, the Rum Runners were in her slots. They do nicely in the pub. Though I think they should open up the floor to suggestions with "What Do You Do With a Drunken Sailor." The boys also discovered the joy of making whiskeyfyre happy with "Cannibal Islands." Oogacha oogacha. Need I say more?
Continuing in my role of support staff to the rest of Local 74, I trotted off with Amanda so she could get her hair braided. She ended up with a five strand double that just looked wonderful. I'm considering getting my hair braided on Memorial Day Saturday, just so I won't have to mess with it the rest of the weekend. I'll see what finances are like at that point. I really REALLY hope I get my pay from my current gig in a timely manner... It's looking again like that might not quite happen. *gulp*
The rest of the day was your standard pub silliness.
BTW, could anyone see me today? 'Cause I felt sort of invisible. At least five times, people just plain turned away from me in the middle of a conversation I was having with them, in the middle of a sentence I was saying, and struck up a conversation with someone else, or just walked off. Or am I receiving some not so subtle hints?
GARF weekend DEUX
It was very much the Wench's Twelve Step Program on Saturday morning. I ran into so many people on my way up the hill. I finally ended up hanging out in Raven's Nest for a half hour or so, and chatting with
The Lost Boys were having a good morning. They all looked like they were having fun, and quite energetic. Lots of kids in the audience having a good time, too!
I ended up running into David from Trench's Funny Farm at the show.
Did some more wandering and "window" shopping. I want a silver or charcoal grey bodice to round out my wardrobe. The only thing I found even vaguely enticing was at Crimson Chain, but I think I have enough leather bodices at this point. I may try to get one similar to Maggie's with the mandarin half collar; it's so cute.
Made the good two-hour block at pub, and was involved in the game of "Heavy" Potato with Navarre. Child kept giving me this look while being cuddled and danced and played with by half a dozen wenches, "Yeah, my life is good and I know it!" I wandered off again when the pub bands began to repeat themselves. Don't really recall what I did with the rest of the afternoon. Something, I'm sure. I think I walked around talking to boothies. I'm making a lot more friends among them this year!
Watched two of the new shows that morning, Aerial Angles and Barely Balanced. Both well worth seeing, perhaps a few times. Wandered some more (I'm doing a lot of aimless wandering this season) and was in pub for
The event at 1:30 outside the pub was a wooing contest between Captain Drago and the Duke of Buckingham.
I went a wandering again, met up with
Went back up to Hairsticks in time for
GARF Opening Weekend
So, Friday night was opening night for Voices Deux; I was in hell. We had teched until after midnight the night before, then I had to get up and go to the box office the next morning, and work there until it was time to go back to the theatre. I did get to see scrappy_doo and meet his lovely wife for a bit before I could go in. Yet again, I have no keys, so I had to wait for someone to let me in so I could do my job (this theme will repeat, just wait). My LD had apparently been reduced by the ravages of exhaustion between tech and when she wrote out my cue sheet, and I spent the entirety of opening night with fingers madly racing over the ancient two-scene pre-set board trying to get light where there was supposed to be light and was not.
My director asked me if I could stay late and try to fix cues that night. I didn't laugh in her face; too tired. I just looked at her and she said, "Never mind. Try to get in early tomorrow."
I went home, got out my garb for the next day, and passed flat out on my bed.
Saturday, I got up nice and early to head out for GARF opening! The weather was beautiful. Cloudy, breezy and mid-70's. I would be in heaven if the weather stayed like Saturday for the whole run. Of course, it won't. I'm fantasizing, not delusional.
Ran into crazyauntjaynie, lady_rose30, whiskeyfyre, and ladychevalier (out of garb) at gate, and we all had a good time enjoying the musicians and snarking the gate show. I had to make massive fun of my sister. She begged me to make her garb for Christmas, and then didn't wear it!
It was pretty much a basic first day. Making the rounds, catching what shows I could. It was nice to hear that everyone missed tomomallie. I made my way all the way around site and checked in with almost everyone. Caught a Lost Boys show, yamguitar, gypsyariana, and Rivka at a TQA show, merryfaerie's show, and supergoober's show. After my rounds, I gave up on moving around and just settled in the pub. I had my sister and scrappy_doo on site, and when I couldn't find them after a judicious amount of wandering, I decided it was smarter for me to stay in one place I had told them I could likely be found. Didn't see either of them before I had to leave early to get to the show.
I left at 4:30, got to work around 5:30, nice and early so I could fix those cues. Not a soul there to let me in. Luckily the weather lock was open and I was at least able to change out of my garb. When I finally got in, I madly started fiddling with cues, and between running fight call and all my other stage managerial duties, managed to make a show I could acutally run and had light where there needed to be light. It wasn't ideal, but at least when I left the theatre on Saturday night, I no longer wanted to have a good friend bash my head in with a spiked mace and put me out of my misery.
Sunday was that once a season FRIGID day at GARF. It didn't seem quite so bad at gate show. Sarah showed up in her garb and she looked so cute! She's turning into quite the little rennie. We got her a mug, mug strap and stripey socks (since the nitwit wasn't wearing any!), and tomomallie loaned her his spare, brown, wool, Moresca, half cloak, so she was reasonably cozy. After her shopping stint, we caught lasarigue's group's first show of the day, a couple of Lost Boys shows and lunch at the Peacock Tea Room. Then she wandered off somewhere, and I headed back to the pub. Since Joan of Arc has me boots and I was re-learning how to breathe in my back-lacer, I decided I was tired of wandering in the cold and headed back to the pub. Found a Cruella de whiskeyfyre and snuggled with her for a while until she headed off with some others to try to get warm by walking. Luckliy, not long after they disappeared, miatuc and dlrium showed up, so we all snuggled until it was time for me to head off to work, again. Snuggling and cloak sharing is a warm happy thing.
Left at 4:00, got to theatre at 5:15. No one there to let me in, again. This is how I discovered that not only can I get myself out of my back-lacer without help, I can do so while in the back seat of my car. I finally got in around 5:45 (for a 6:00 call *dies*), twiddled with the sound cues a bit and ran a decent show. I felt even better about it than I did Saturday. By next Sunday, I'll be able to do it in my sleep. And then have to learn a whole new show.
When I got home, my loving tomomallie had a plate of sushi for me. I sushied, showered, cuddled a bit and passed out.
